Searching for $cents: Annual Fund Drive

On behalf of the KYK9 Board, I am writing to update you on KYK9's activities this past year. Please visit and explore kyk9.org. We hope you will become an active KYK9 supporter and make a financial contribution as part of your year-end giving.

This past year KYK9 searches included missing JCPS students; a victim in the Clyde Gibson serial murder case; a suicidal husband and father; a disoriented man lost in the woods for four days; and a boater who went missing after a sudden storm. This coming year KYK9 is looking to add new dog teams and increase KYK9's search and emergency response capacity. The key now is funding.

Here are examples of how you can help KYK9 financially:

  • VIPuppy $25 Our teams work throughout the year in all types of weather, day or night. Help us purchase rain gear, hand warmers, tick spray, first aid supplies, water bottles.

  • Dandy Dog $50 Our teams travel to searches wherever we are needed. Help us defray our extensive travel costs, so that we can reach those in needs and expand our service area.

  • Hot Dog $100 Searching is hard on equipment, from flashlights to safety vests. Help us meet our ongoing need for search gear, K9 flotation devices, rope lines, reflective safety gear.

  • Super Dog $250 Searching often takes the team into hazardous settings, so our dogs sometimes need emergency medical attention. Help provide Remy and Scout access to emergency medical care when they have been injured, exposed to anti-freeze or searching in dangerous conditions.

  • Top Dog $500 Often our teams search and train in remote inaccessible areas or on water and require specialized communication/navigation equipment. Help furnish radios, topographical maps, GPS units.

  • Champion $1,000 Help send us on our next search to help a family looking to be reunited with their loved one.

  • Grand Champion $2,500 Our teams have searched in caves, landfills, cemeteries, disaster sites, and along river banks and railroad tracks. To be prepared to search in diverse scent conditions and locations, our teams must continually train. Help fund national training and certification testing for our teams.

  • Best in Show $5,000 By educating the public about the value of scent-specific search dogs, and learn ways they can help themselves if they get lost, we make our community safer. Help our team deliver five days of educational and community safety programs to school children, the elderly and other vulnerable populations.

Whether you are a VIPuppy, a Hot Dog, or a Grand Champion, we rely on the support of individuals like you to provide search dog and safety services to the community. On behalf of the families, individuals and organizations we serve, thank you.

    Jennifer Leibson, Board President
