Why Give to KYK9?

We need your support to meet our mission of using and promoting the use of scent-specific search dogs to find missing persons and to effect justice for the missing and their families.

KYK9 Relies on the Financial Support of Individuals

KYK9 relies on individual contributions to provide search services.  We receive no direct federal or state funding for operations.  We are a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization and all contributions and donations are tax deductible.  We work with families of the missing, other non-profit agencies and law enforcement.  Grant funding is very hard to obtain, as we provide a unique service that does not fit into grant funding matrices.  Typically law enforcement does not offer to pay KYK9 when it uses our professional search dogs to find a missing person or to help in a homicide investigation.

KYK9’s Operating Costs

Training, searching, and traveling are costly and time intensive.  Much of our work is done behind the scenes. KYK9’s field training of search dogs and handlers is an ongoing, intensive process. We train 3-4 times a week, sometimes more. Our ongoing quest for improvement ensures that our search dog teams are search ready and able to provide the highest quality professional search services when a person goes missing.

KYK9’s Educates Law Enforcement, Schools, Individuals, and Families

A police patrol or drug dog is not a scent-specific search dog trained to find missing persons.  Tragically, when a person goes missing, a family usually does not know this difference and does not know to ask for scent-specific search dogs to search for their loved one.  KYK9 is dedicated to educating the public and law enforcement about the unique abilities of scent specific search-dogs so that families, schools and law enforcement will have the best resource available to help them bring a missing family member home.
