Last week, K9 Remy and K9 Scout were on a search near Holly Bay Campground on Laurel River Lake in Daniel Boone National Forest. NPR has reported that the Campground was closed Saturday after a sighting of a family of 3 bears - mama bear, papa bear and baby bear. While searching we saw a Cooperhead snake "dancing" in the water, but we (or at least I) didn't realize bears were close. Remy is a proud descendant of her famous great-grandmother who was killed protecting her family from a bear. Given her lineage, Remy could be hard to handle if she crossed paths with a bear. The drought has dried up the bears' food supply so they are hunting for food in a wider area. The KYDFWR will keep the campground closed until the bears are moved or have left the area. That sounds like a good plan to me!
