We had a search on Saturday, with the temperature in the high 80s, Per advice from our wonderful vet, Dr. Nevils, I carry a small spray bottle with me and will stop Remy and Scout to spray them down. It works! Not very machismo, but very effective. This is really important when Remy and Scout work on roads like they did Saturday. Remy and Scout are so close to the ground, I would think the heat coming off the pavement would make it impossible for them to work. But, they worked great. Bloodhounds, Ruby and Aries, got very hot very quickly, but Remy and Scout did not. Any ideas on why?.
I believe our ability to effectively search in the heat was due in large part to the three law enforcement officers working the case. They were a great team even though they were from 3 different agencies- KSP, Ohio County Sheriff's Office and Grayson County Sheriff's Office. The officers were masterful at controlling traffic which helped our dogs work longer and more efficiently. They were also really nice guys and a pleasure to work with!! A big thank you to them and a shout our to all the drivers who patiently waited while our dogs worked the road.
