We are in the midst of possibly the worst heat wave since the 1930s dust bowl era. Today, reports show Louisville hit a record 103° with a heat index 110°. But don’t forget the air quality index. AQI measures air pollution and associated health risks. The higher the API value, the greater the health risk. Anything over 100 is considered unhealthy. See chart below. Typically in Louisville, an AQI of 104 -106 warrants an air quality alert day. Today the AQI is 156!! I have never seen the AQI this high. This is especialy dangerous for children, elderly and those with asthma and other breathing conditions. Go to AirNow to learn more and sign up for air quality alerts.
